Desktop Lighter is a small but useful utility that allows you to adjust the screen brightness. Well, as a matter of fact, the utility increases and decreases the contrast of the screen, not the brightness. Still, not many computers have this feature at hand. If anything, this utility can certainly come in useful for users that regularly need to carry their laptops from dark places to places with too much illumination and vice versa.
The program can be operated in two ways: by dragging the Desktop Lighter sliding bar with the mouse or by using the keyboard hotkeys (Ctrl+ arrows on keyboards that use the American layout). The program has various parameters that can be adjusted (still remaining easy to use, however): you can configure the utility to be automatically launched at Windows startup; you can activate/deactivate the system hotkeys and remember the last settings; also you can use a large fader. The Desktop Lighter sliding bar can be minimized and its properties can be adjusted from the system tray icon. OS supported: Windows XP, Server 2003, and Vista.
